V2.6.0 – Easier Docker information management with the new Volumes card

Barbara’s Edge Platform has always had a clear goal: To help companies simplify the management of their distributed devices and applications and accelerate their deployment to lead the Industry. With this mission in mind we work day by day… and today we proudly present Barbara 2.6, our latest release starring the functionality: Volumes!

The new Docker Volumes card

Docker Volumes are shareable folders between multiple containers/applications that allow storing data to be shared between containers, such as databases or logs.

In this latest version, we have added the Docker Volumes card, which allows you to create and monitor all the volumes present on your nodes, to be used by the containers of the applications you are running.

Functionality:

Create volumes
Delete volumes
Display existing volumes.
Display information related to each volume such as:

  • Volume status: in use / not in use
  • Volume size
  • Containers using the volume
  • Services using the volume
  • Applications using the volume.

Batch operations: increasing the possibilities

In our crusade to be batch-first, we periodically expand the operations that can be done in batch so that you can manage thousands of devices as you would with just one, conveniently and easily.

Here are some of the new batch commands we have incorporated to manage your deployments in a single click:

  • Remote Node Management: Activate, deactivate and delete your nodes.
  • Deployment of marketplace applications: Install, configure and update your marketplace applications with a single click on a set of nodes.
  • Remote network configuration: Update the access parameters to any of your networks in bulk, in the easiest possible way.

Audit logs from the management perspective

Audit logs are a record of all actions performed on the platform dashboard. This includes things like the creation of new nodes, configuration updates, or telemetries received from each node.

Audit logs are a very useful tool for security and auditing. They allow you to see who has done what and when which helps you to detect the causes of anomalous situations and take preventive measures for the future.

We have redesigned this audit log functionality to make it easier to find the information the user needs:

Search over a period of time the actions performed by each user of your company and easily find the status changes of each node or in the applications deployed on it. Now finding the actors responsible for each action is easier and faster than ever.

Redesigned and optimized secret and credential cards

We know that managing credentials and secrets in deployment is a process that can be as critical to the health of your applications as it is tedious for you. That’s why we have optimized the upload process to make it faster and less error-prone:

Upload keys/secrets from the file. Fewer clicks = less time = fewer bugs.
Download files with all the information displayed in a node for future reuse.
Availability of more templates to facilitate the process of uploading information in bulk.
In addition, we have added a much-needed functionality in the case of secrets:

Certain secrets and credentials such as encryption keys, security certificates, etc… are files themselves. Now it’s possible to import their value directly from the file itself.

Highly optimized Node Manager performance

The Node Manager is a software agent included in the Edge Node firmware that performs all the functionality necessary for proper communication with the Panel. Without the Node Manager, nothing would be possible and its execution is continuous (as soon as a node starts up, it is always running).

Although the average resource consumption of the Node Manager has always been negligible compared to user applications, we are never satisfied. We really want the full computing power is always available to the users

After a thorough review and optimization of our Node Manager, we have released an update that we are very proud of: We have managed to reduce the average system load as much as possible to just 1% so that you now have even more capacity for your applications.

We keep improving…

  • More understandable bug notifications so you always know what has gone wrong
  • Security improvements
  • Minor errors and corrections

…and much more to come

This is just the beginning of the journey. The collection of new features will keep growing each month, constantly giving you fresh tools to unlock unprecedented possibilities.
